Low compression (14–18mmHg): early-onset and mild lymphoedema with minimal or no shape distortion; stable condition; elderly/arthritis patients; pressure-sensitive patients; ISL stages 0–II, maintenance, palliation, lipoedema; controlled cardiac oedema; dependency oedema; neurological deficit; may be considered for patients with ABPI 0.5–0.8 following full assessment; prophylaxis. European class 1 (18–21mmHg): early-onset and mild lymphoedema with minimal shape distortion; lipoedema; chronic oedema; stabilised condition; ISL stage 0–II; maintenance ; palliation; lipoedema; controlled cardiac oedema; dependency oedema; ABPi >0.8. European class 2 (23–32mmHg): mild to moderate lymphoedema with minimal shape distortion; maintenance after a leg ulcer has healed; lipoedema; long-term maintenance; varicose veins; venous conditions; ISL late-stage II–III; phlebolymphoedema. European class 3 (34–46mmHg): moderate lymphoedema; to aid ulcer healing; reduction therapy; varicose veins; venous conditions; ISL stage III; phlebolymphoedema.
Peripheral vascular disease confirmed with an ABPI reading of <0.8; acute or unstable heart failure; ischaemic heart disease/coronary artery disease; untreated cellulitis or phlebitis of the lower limb. Use with caution in patients with diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis.
